The wonderful things happening at the food pantry

The Lakes Region Food Pantry has more than one mission.

The primary focus of any food pantry is to help feed its community. Thanks to all of our supporters, we have been able to do that and much more. Lakes Region Food Pantry has taken part in community outreach and has progressed in its own ongoing programs. Read more about these events:

Festival Of Trees- At Altrusa’s Festival of Trees, we provide a decorated Christmas Tree which is then donated to a family.  Last year, several volunteers hand decorated food-themed ornaments and then added them to our aptly named Pan-Tree (get it?).

The Santa Fund- Providing Christmas gifts to children. In conjunction with the Christmas gift program in the Moultonborough school district, we collected popular toys and clothing to give out to a specific list of recipients.

The Sneaker Program- Inspired by the Laces of Love project of Florida, we partnered with Bootleggers Footwear in Meredith to provide brand new sneakers to students in the Moultonborough school district.

Got Lunch- Our summer lunch program ensures that qualifying students continue to receive nutritious foods while they are out of school for the summer.

Cooking Matters- In conjunction with the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension, we offer cooking classes for families and adults. In addition to instructing participants on nutrition, meal prep, and recipes, we have  provided course members with brand new crock pots, kitchen knives, and rice cookers.

The Voucher Program – In addition to receiving non-perishable foods from our pantry, clients receive a monthly grocery voucher for fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, and unprocessed meats. EM Heath’s Supermarket in Center Harbor, and Hannaford Supermarket in Meredith work with us to provide these essential foods.

Thanksgiving Turkey Program- We annually provide families in Moultonborough and other towns with a turkey for their Thanksgiving meal. Last year, we supplemented each turkey with a gift card to EM Heath’s. With this, families were able to provide a great meal for their loved ones.

Set Sail for School- *LRFP did not develop this program and did not participate in accumulating funds or items but this is a program that we are proud of.* Merrimack Mortgage hosted this project which collected hundreds of backpacks and school supplies for students all over New England. Lakes Region Food Pantry was selected as a recipient of these packs and supplies. This summer, we sent 80 children back to school with these gifts and we are so pleased to have been able to do so. Many thanks to Anita Wolcott and her team for facilitating this endeavor and choosing LRFP as a recipient.

Each of these outreach programs is a collaborative effort from donors, volunteers, LRFP board members, and community members. We are grateful for each person who gives their time and resources.
